Chris Black -
Coach Chris Black comes to us from Bowling Green Swim Club where he was Head Age Group Coach. He is an ASCA Level IV certified coach and has over 15 years of coaching experience including head coach positions for the Ft. Collins Area Swim Team and the Miami Valley Aquatic Club. His previous swimmers include a US Olympic Trials qualifier, International Paralympic athletes, US National qualifiers, US Open qualifiers, Jr. National Qualifiers and numerous state meet qualifiers.
Coach Chris has also had many personal successes during his own swim career. He was a three time Ohio High School State Meet Qualifier (finalist 2 years in a row) while attending Fremont Ross High School and placed 17 th in the 200 IM at US Junior Nationals East. During his college years Chris was a 9 time Mid-American Conference Champion at Eastern Michigan University and a former record holder in individual and relay events. Chris was also a Senior National qualifier 4 years while at Eastern Michigan. He placed 17 th at the US Open in 1988 in the 400 IM. In 2003 Chris was the FINA number 1 ranked 800 freestyler in 35-39 age group. He was a multiple US Masters Champion and had three 3 rd place finishes at 2004 FINA World Championships!
His academic endeavors include a BA in Geography with a minor in Physics and he recently completed a Master of Education degree from BGSU.
On a personal note, Chris is married to Carla and lives in Fremont, Ohio. His wife was a missionary in Zambia, Africa for 8 years; she currently is an interpreter for a deaf child in the Sandusky County school system. Chris and Carla have two young boys, Kelvin and Aidan who keep them very busy. In his own words Chris is looking forward to "getting our swimmers to believe in greater things".
Taryn Kirk - 
Coach Taryn began competitive swimming with Bloemfontein Seals Swimming Club in South Africa at age 9. She was chosen to represent South Africa at the All-Africa Games at age 16. She was also the first female in her high schools history to receive the Victrix Award 5 years in a row for swimming excellence. Recruited to swim for the University of Toledo in 1999, began mid-semester in spring of 2000. 2000-01 - Competed in the 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly at MAC Championships ... Placed fifth in the 100 and ninth in the 200 butterfly ... Member of UT record-setting 400 medley relay. 2001-02 - Placed fourth in the 100 butterfly, fourth in the 200 butterfly and 16th in the 200 IM at the MAC Championships ... Captured first place seven times in regular season meets ... Broke my own school record in the 100 butterfly. 2002-03 - First-team All-MAC selection ... Finished second in the 100 backstroke (56.83), third in the 200 butterfly (2:03.06) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (56.71) at MAC Championships ... Member of the 400 yard medley relay team (3:50.60) that placed fourth at MAC's. In her senior year she suffered a major shoulder injury and spent most of the year out of the water. Coaching History: Assistant coach at Bloemfontein Seals club for 2 years, and gave private lessons and worked as a lifeguard at UT. She lives in Toledo with her husband Kevin. Taryn and Kevin just recently had their first child; Anna Ryan.
Kris Moellenberg - Coach Kris graduated from Sylvania Southview in 1981. Kris went on to the University of Toledo in 1986 and earned a degree in Physical Education/Leisure Education. Kris swam forthe University of Toledo all four years and was co-captain of the Rocket Men's team his senior year. Kris has also coached over 25 years in various locations including a seven year tenure at Dunedin HS in Palm Harbor, Florida. He served as the head coach of the Sylvania Tsunami Swim Club for seven years, and one year as the head coach of Great Lakes Swimming. Kris most recently was the head coach of the Fort Meigs YMCA swim team where he was on staff for two years. During his career he has had numerous state qualifiers in both the high school and USA Swimming ranks. Coach Kris is married to Kathy and have been married for 21 years! They have one son Kraig who has swam for both Sylvania Tsunami and Northview High School.
Andy Dugan -
Coach Andy is currently teaching 5th and 6th grade at The East Toledo Community Program, an alternative school that services At-Risk students. He has been teaching for 10 years and coaching for as long. High school coaching includes Southview (1995-1999), St. Francis (1999-2001), St. Johns (2002-present), and Notre Dame Academy (2003-2005). Andy has been with the Sylvania Masters Swim Club since 1995, which is when he also began his age-group coaching experience at the Jewish Community Center. There he coached the "8 & Unders" from 1995-1999. He started with Sylvania Tsunami in 1996 .
Jenna Winfield -
Jenna started swimming at age 7 for the St. James Swim Club. She swam for Great Lakes Swimming from age 8 to age 16. While on Great Lakes she competed in numerous AA state championships in all events and was a member of two Top16 relays. Coach Jenna swam for Notre Dame Academy freshman through junior year, specializing in the 50 free and 100 free. She competed in both events at districts all three years, placing in the top 8, and was a member of multiple district champion relays and qualified for state championships in the 200 medley relay as a freshman, and on the 400 free relay as a sophomore. Coach Jenna also rowed for Notre Dame Academy for four years on the varsity team. She competed at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Massachusetts her junior and senior year and was captain her senior year. She's taught private swimming lessons and was an assistant coach this past fall for the Notre Dame Academy Rowing team. Currently Coach Jenna is attending the University of Toledo, majoring in paralegal studies.
Allyson Keefer - Picture coming soon - Allyson is in her first year with Sylvania Tsunami Swim Club. Allyson went to Sylvania Southview High School where she swam for 4 years as a varsity athlete. Before that she swam for the former Great Lakes Swimming and then moved to Sylvania Tsunami until her freshman year. In the fall of her highschool years she played waterpolo and in the spring of her junior year she returned to our program andswam for Tsunami. She is currently going to the University of Toledo with an undecided major. In the summer she is a life guard at St. James Club and a swim coach. She has also taught lessons there.
